On This Day In Club Penguin History – December 11

On the 11th of December Club Penguin has updated in 2009 and 2014. In 2009 Coins For Change began as well as some preparations for the Holiday Party, Rockhopper arrived for another visit, and the postcard catalogue was updated. In 2014 there was a new furniture & igloo catalogue, the igloo music was updated, a new pin was hidden, the Ice Rink returned, plus some minor updates.

The biggest update on this day in 2009 was Coins For Change, which alongside this Club Penguin placed some crates of decorations for the upcoming Holiday Party in the Town and Dance Lounge. Rockhopper had arrived on the island for Coins For Change 2009, the third one. Penguins could donate their virtual coins to different charities, and depending on what percentage was donated to each section, Club Penguin would divide the 1 million dollars they were giving away to charity based on that. The 2009 Coins For Change event allowed players to donate their coins to kids who are poor, kids who are sick, and helping the environment. From December 11th through December 21st penguins could donate coins. By the end of Coins For Change 2009 2.9 million players donated a total of 4 billion coins. A login screen advertising Coins For Change was also added.

Rockhopper’s rare items catalogue for his December 2009 visit featured the following clothing items:

  1. Coins For Change Background (free)
  2. Tricorn Hat (350 coins)
  3. Silver Bell (75 coins)

It also featured the following furniture items:

  1. Coins For Change Banner (500 coins)
  2. Coins For Change Donation Station (75 coins)

Club Penguin also updated the furniture and igloo catalogues on this day in 2009. Back then they were separate catalogues. The furniture catalogue featured new items such as the Mystery Present, which automatically opened and revealed what was inside (a chair) on December 25th. The December 2009 igloo catalogue featured the new Snowy Floor, costing players 400 coins.

As for the postcards, one of the new postcards was one you could send other players, and when they opened it, they would receive the Candy Cane Hat clothing item for free. The other newly added postcards were either holiday or Coins For Change themed.

The biggest updates in 2014 were furniture and igloo related. A new furniture & igloo catalogue was released with some holiday themed items, plus the igloo music was updated with some tunes to go along.

Another update in 2014 was a new pin, the Marry Walrus Pin. This pin is Club Penguin’s 293rd pin overall and is the ninth pin to be hidden at the Ski Hill.

Also on this day in 2014 the Ice Rink returned at the Stadium, replacing the Soccer Pitch. The rest of the updates in 2014 were minor. A blue frame around the game on the play page was added, the featured postcards were updated for the holidays, a Merry Walrus login screen was added, and in the real world the 38th issue of Club Penguin’s magazine was released.
