Club Penguin Discussion – Getting Party Items Tasks

The other day it was pointed out to me that compared to what it used to be, getting free items at parties is a lot more involved than it used to be. I didn’t totally notice this, I’ve just been one to get party items no matter what, but my friend that told me this is right. Back in 2005 and several years past that to get  a party item you just had to go up to a box of some sort. Here’s me at the 2007 Pirate Party. In the bottom right corner there’s a box with Sailor Hats for penguins to get. All you had to do to get the item was go to the Plaza and waddle over to it, then you’d get the popup asking if you want it. That’s it.

Nowadays it’s done differently. You need to complete some sort of task, such as a maze, logging on a certain day, play Dino Dig for a long time until you get all the eggs, or take hundreds of pictures over the span of at least an hour or two just to get free items. There’s hardly ever “click to receive an item” or “waddle over to the item” unless it’s something such as getting the starter item (like the Digital Camera) or if it’s in a special member room. It’s much more involved nowadays compared to what it used to be.

So my question to you for this Club Penguin Discussion is this: do you prefer the minimal effort to get items like it was when Club Penguin was in its infancy or do you like the much more involved process to get rewarded with an item or two? I personally prefer the old way where there was minimal effort in getting an items. Not everybody has the time to spend an hour or two to get items. Luckily parties are two weeks long now rather than 3-7 days at most like they used to be!

  1. I preferred the old way of geting items. It was simpler for people to understand now it can get confusing with explanation such as earning the stars for the Hollywood Party and things.

  2. I was just thinking about this topic when I was becoming a director! It took me ages, and I totally agree (although I voted for the joke option) and I think its not worth it. But then again, you have to think about this: We didn’t just get one item, for all that hard work, did we? We got 4 for the director, and also a script and a golf cart. Also, how do you think we’re going to get our awards? :P

  3. I think its better to Spending lots of time to earn them, if we get the items in box or something like that Club Penguin will be bored, but now you can see so many rooms are full for getting items and I think Spending lots of time to earn them is better.

  4. Spending time to earn them keeps me occupied during some days of parties. If you walk over to a free item, that’s it, you have to make your own fun for the rest of the party, whereas doing tasks each day keeps you occupied.

  5. I prefer having free items in boxes. They were a lot easier to get and I didn’t have to waste any of my preserved energy. :P

Club Penguin pretty much got rid of “Free Item Stands” altogether in 2012. I also wish Club Penguin would have shorter parties.

  6. I sort of like effort to get items because it’s good excercise for my index finger :P. But if it takes too long, I stop excercising my finger or else it would look flat. lol

  7. Hi Trainman1405!

I also remembered that for a couple of times we haven”t been able to obtain certain costumes in certain parties. It started with the Holiday Party with the race cars, Frostbites and the reindeer puffle. Then the Prehistoric Party with the Dinosaurs.

Thankfully this has not been the case with the Hollywood Party so far.

  8. I think that we should have free item boxes AND complicated, week-long tasks to get items. It would be nice have both, and if we need to do spend a lot of time earning items, we should be doing fun things like the marathon at the penguin games, not going to a room and dancing.

  9. I remember where there was no stage (breathes softly) good times good times and this was all before Club penguin was bought buy Disney since they included the stage.

    • The Stage wasn’t Disney’s influence. Club Penguin probably already had it planned months before they were bought by Disney.

  10. I do like the idea of having to work more to get free items, but I feel the tasks CP has are a bit..tedious now. I’d prefer something like the Medieval Quests instead.

  11. Why can’t cp just keep the earning items thing in fall fair? Its way more better like that. Are they going to make us earn rockhopper’s items with playing treasure hunt? I couldn’t get the dinosaur hoodie because it was to much work (Im lazy btw) I just want mazes. Also cp catres about kids inmagination WHY WONT THEY JUST GIVE THEM FREE ITEMS SO THEY CAN SPREAD IT OUT

  12. It can be fun to spend all this time working to get items, but I still prefer the minimal effort. I’m sure Club Penguin did this because –
    1) They wanted penguins to spend more time in the game.
    2) They wanted penguins to spend more time at the party and focus on all the hard work they did (heck, if all penguins do was get an item, Club Penguin could just set out a box, write ‘FREE!’ on it, and count that as a party without even decorating the rooms!).
If the quests were fun, y’know, that’d be cool, but something like taking 30 years to get a clapboard – that isn’t fun and it’s times like that that I’d love to have minimal effort. So there we have it, penguins.

  13. Yeah, I prefer the easy way.
    a) You’re right about some people not having enough time to get them.
    b) “HOW DO U GET THE BLACK AND WHITE MOVIE THINGY?”

  14. Spending so much time for items is so annoying. I have a lot of penguin… and I mean a lot XD but lately I haven’t been getting the items for them because it takes way too long. I just get them on “Nelsonbob101.” :P

    Great discussion topic, btw. :P

  15. Ikr Trainman, also that I am presenting my exams, how the heck can I get ALL the items?

Also on the Prehistoric Party, it took me 1 WEEK to get the simple stupid dino hoodie, I spent like 3 HOURS IN A ROW AND STILL NO EGG! DID YOU KNOW HOW FRUSTRATING WAS IT? AND WITH A LOT OF HOMEWORK I RECEIVE? CLUB PENGUIN NEEDS TO THINK ON THE OTHER PEOPLE WHICH ARE TEENS ALSO, THEY SHOULD DO IT IN FEW PARTIES.

I HOPE IT DOESN’T HAPPEN AGAIN DURING THE PUFFLE PARTY 2013 AND THEY COULD PROBABLY DO SOMETHING FUN INSTEAD!

Thanks for Club Penguin for causing this, they caused MAJOR problems in our daily life also such as…

*Obesity = Kids spending their entire life on the compute on CP trying to get all the items instead of interacting with each other, and sitting everyday over there…

*Anti-Sociability = Kids staying on their computer and doesn’t care of their friends and caring more a virtual item…

*School Problems = Kids doesn’t care of their homework and other stuff and decide to get those items

And I believe they are other problems more, but this is just a summary of what I made, since I am busy studying for my exam.

  16. I’d like a healthy balance of both. However, I’d prefer if the tasks didn’t take so long but, I get why they make them lengthy. Club Penguin is a business and they want you to keep coming back to their service. I think this is a good marketing strategy but it shouldn’t take over an hour to accomplish.

  17. I’d spend time doing it. Like one user said,Club Penguin would be boring if it had some boxes,at old parties, you didn’t have THAT much to do except for check out the decorated rooms.now.you can actually do something instead of exploring it all in one day,and the different event on days was good, like Operation Blackout and Hollywood,so we can stay on the sight.

  18. It was fun back in 2007 when I could just walk right up to the free party item and claim it. It’s still good that Club Penguin actually makes the penguins want the item making them do puzzles, mazes, etc but I think it might take time for kids playing the game to earn all those Hollywood Party items having to take THOUSANDS of pictures just to get four items but I think if the puzzles were challenging but not too hard and creative, I think CP will get great at keeping the players engaged in the game. I mean, not like players have to spend 4 hours just too get two special items but for the players to actual “play” the game like not only getting the items but talking to other penguins and playing around and stuff like that. The point is, there should be a balance of challenging and basic so players will come back for more and not get bored.
I’d also like to hear what you guys think!
I look forward to reading the rest of the comments!

  19. I have 3 questions!

    1. How do you know when the Puffle Party 2013 and April Fools Party start?
    2. AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FO DAT?
    3. What time does Field Friday usually take place in the UK?

  20. I want to have free items as rewards for my work, but I’ve REALLY hated the last 2 parties for making me over-work. I never got the dinosaur costume and I’ve more or less given up on the whole director thing. :/

  21. I think they should have a combination of both, but I have noticed in the past that some of these items seem to be re-released the following year. I would much rather earn them if they were not coming back… it kinda defeats the point if you just need to wait for 6 months/ year to pick it up for 300 coins or whatever. However I do think if they were to use this method again they should make it so they are easier and not as complex. This camera thing just takes ages!
